How to upgrade from Nextimage 6 to Nextimage 7
If you have recently purchased Nextimage 6, you can upgrade to Nextimage 7 for a short period of time for free! (this runs between 1st October 2025 to 1st December 2025).
To upgrade, you will require your licence key to be updated and replaced with a new Nextimage 7-compatible one.
To upgrade your Nextimage 6 licence, please follow the steps below.
Step 1 - Locate your Nextimage 6 licence key
You will have received this as a document included with your scanner when it was delivered or as a PDF attachment in an email from your reseller.
If you cannot locate it, please contact your reseller, who should be able to provide you with a copy of your Nextimage 6 licence key.
Step 2 - Contact your original reseller
Contact your reseller from whom you purchased your scanner or software from and tell them you want to update your licence key to work with Nextimage 7.
Provide them with your licence key (either the code or the PDF document) and confirm your scanner and scanner’s serial number.
They will get this licence code updated. You’ll still be able to use your current Nextimage 6 licence whilst this is being updated.
Step 3 - Get ready for Nextimage 7
Nextimage 7 requires your scanner’s firmware to be updated to the latest release, as well as an updated version of WIDEsystem.
To obtain the latest firmware for your scanner, visit the Contex Support website here and select your scanner model. Your scanner’s user guide includes instructions on how to apply the firmware update.
The latest version of WIDEsystem can be downloaded here. Installing it will update your existing version to the newest release.
Step 4 - Install Nextimage 7
Your reseller will contact you back to confirm your Nextimage 6 licence key has been upgraded and provide you with your new Nextimage 7 licence key.
They will also provide you with the link to download the latest Nextimage 7 software and how to install this successfully.
That’s it, you’re ready to enjoy Nextimage 7!
FAQs
Do I need to update from Nextimage 6 to 7? Will it stop working?
It’s highly recommended that Nextimage 6 users upgrade to Nextimage 7, as Nextimage 6 will no longer receive any additional updates, improvements or fixes.
While Nextimage 6 will continue to work, if you encounter issues that have been addressed in the newer Nextimage 7 release, you will need to upgrade to possibly resolve these issues.
What Contex scanners are compatible with Nextimage 7?
All current Contex scanners – SD One+, SD One MF, IQ Quattro 2490, IQ Quattro X, HD Ultra X and IQ Flex are compatible but will require their firmware to be updated to the latest version – please see our step-by-step guide above on how to download this.
Legacy Contex scanners are not supported in Nextimage 7. If you have a legacy Contex scanner and are looking to upgrade, Contex is continuing to offer Nextimage 5 for users looking to upgrade, and it will remain supported with future updates where required. Please check the release notes for Nextimage 5 to see if your scanner model is covered.
Note that older Nextimage versions (1 to 4) are no longer supported with new updates, and also cannot be purchased as new.
When does the period to update to Nextimage 7 end?
The time for you to upgrade to Nextimage 7 free from Nextimage 6 starts from 1st October 2025 and ends on the 1st of December 2025. After this, a charge may be applicable to update the licence key, so it’s best to get it done as soon as possible.
I have a number of Contex scanners that I run through my existing Nextimage software. Can I still use it in this way?
Yes, but each scanner will now require its own Nextimage 7 licence key to work with Nextimage 7. Please check that all your scanning equipment is compatible with Nextimage 7 before considering this.
Is the Nextimage 7 user experience different?
Nextimage 7 keeps the same familiar layout and interface design, so you can get straight back into using Nextimage 7 without having to re-learn where key functions are.
Can I update a Nextimage 5 licence to Nextimage 7 for free?
Unfortunately, the free upgrade to Nextimage 7 only applies to Nextimage 6 users. If you have a Nextimage 5 licence and want to use Nextimage 7, you will need to purchase a new licence for the version you want (Scan & Archive or Repro)
Whilst my Nextimage 6 licence is being updated to Nextimage 7, can I still use Nextimage 6 to scan?
Yes, you can still use Nextimage 6 whilst your licence key is upgraded.
Can I use my Nextimage 6 licence key after it's been updated to a Nextimage 7 licence key?
Once you have traded in your Nextimage 6 licence key to convert to a Nextimage 7 licence key, your original Nextimage 6 licence key will no longer work if you try and use it to install Nextimage 6 on another device. It will also not work on earlier Nextimage versions.
I have lost or cannot find my Nextimage 6 licence key, what can I do?
Your Nextimage 6 licence will have either been included in any paperwork provided at the time of installation and setup or sent as a PDF document via email.
You can also locate the software licence key within the installation files installed on your computer. To find it, please navigate to this area – C:\ProgramData\Contex\Nextimage\Userinfo.ini
If you still cannot find it, please contact the reseller you originally purchased your scanner or software through. They may have retained this information in their records.
